IMLEAP 2019 Sample Projects

Breast Cancer Treatment In The Future

M.B. Akren, B. Ercik, E.D. Gül, L.H. Schween, M. Shkokani, A. Yıldırım

Thinking about the future of health care, we imagined a life-long accompany of caring, starting before birth until the end. We focused on the treatment of breast cancer, as it affects one in eight women globally. Future technological advances are envisioned to target each phase of the life of individuals, starting with prenatal care, following with preventive care, continuing with diagnosis and therapy in the unfortunate case of disease and concluding with the follow up treatment. To ensure a lifelong perspective, complete and structured health records, as well as sustainable multi-modal data collection will be required. Considering the growing life expectancy, the data must be secured, accessible and readable for a timeframe of approximately 100 years. With such a medical history of indivduals, a broader and integrative approach can be pursued in healthcare. In addition to that, AI-doctors can possibly use this data to advise and consult the patients 7/24.

The Personalized Health ATM

Berna Ateş, Hamida Shaheen, Meryem Tunç, Simge Özkan, Tolga Kaboğlu

With overcrowding in hospitals and continuous increase in population, a method that would decrease work load on healthcare facilities and reduce number of unnecessary visits by patients is required to maintain the quality of healthcare services. The personalized health ATM, is an artificial intelligence based system linked by a shared cloud with hospitals; it will be able to collect vital signs and give preliminary responses to patients, forwarding them to the nearest hospital or, say, recommending them to rest at home and not to worry. The personalized experience will be secured through a voice recognition system and keeping record of patient’s health history from hospitals in the cloud. It is envisioned to be a sterile booth with a green design, powered by solar panels and utilizing recycling. They will be all around cities like banks’ ATMs.

The Health Cabin & Self-Service Triage

Asena G. Gökoğlu, Barash Shenyaldaz, Büşra Demir, Eda Yeşilyurt, Elif T. Öztürk, M. Akif Erdem

The proposed health point cabin aims at decreasing the workload of emergency rooms by automatization of the inital medical assessment (eg. with a self-service triage system, GUI based self-reporting of symptoms, etc.) and directing the patients to the right department. The system also allows digitization of the medical data in the health system to be utilized in the long term in accordance with Health 4.0 concepts
